Text Box: We had something to celebrate and we did!!!

NECC celebrated 165 years of Christian witness and service on October 14. This milestone also marked the 25th anniversary of the Reverend Dr. Paul H. Durbin’s leadership here as pastor. According to pollster George Barna, the national average of a pastor’s term with a congregation has dropped from seven years to four, despite additional research which indicates that long pastoral tenures improve the health of those congregations served.

The day’s celebration included Don Knechtges, senior advisor of the Great Lakes Innovation and Development Enterprise, served as guest speaker at both worship services. The Elders presented an eternal light in the NECC sanctuary in honor of Dr. Durbin’s dedicated service and Christian witness. A celebration luncheon followed at noon and included a slide show of photos chronicling the church’s growth and its subsequent building additions, from its start on Butternut Ridge Road to its current location.

While proud of its heritage, NECC is planning for its future, and is just now wrapping up the first phase of a long-term visioning process. The possibilities reached by the Visioning Team will be shared with the congregation during Sunday’s worship services.
