It sure would be nice to go online or into some symbol book to get a script as to the real meaning of the eternal light. I was unable to find such a website or description in any of the many symbol books I have in my library. I am unable to tell you if it originates in the Jewish faith or the Roman Catholic or Orthodox. I will continue my pursuit when more time is available. Londa has me on a deadline.

The Eternal Light for me. There was one hanging in the chancel of my home church for most of my childhood. We were told that it stood for God’s eternal presence. It burned 24/7. It was especially beautiful as one light piercing the darkness of the sanctuary when all other lights were turned off. At North Eaton, we have chosen to place the light in the back of the sanctuary. It is the reminder that God’s eternal presence goes with us as we leave the center of worship to be God’s presence in the world. It is interestingly placed close to the circle window. A circle is a symbol of eternity. The Greek “Alpha and Omega” of the contained in the circle window is the symbolic representation that God is the beginning and the end. As we leave worship we have a double reminder that God is always with us. Have no doubt that where ever we chose to go or whatever situation we find ourselves in, God is there. We take comfort from that knowledge and are encouraged to bare witness to it as we leave the sanctuary and go into the world.
Text Box: 25 years!
“Thank you”

October 14th was especially important to me as I celebrated my 25th anniversary with the NECC. It has been a wonderful 25 years. It is quite clear that we have a good relationship that has lasted and will continue on as the congregation visions out its future. In a time when everything is disposable, it is good to know that our relationship as congregation and pastor is not disposable. It is good to know that our individual relationships are not disposable. We have been able to count on each other and I appreciate that. So, the celebration of 25 years of ministry at NECC, is not just about me. It is about us.
Thank you so much for the financial gift of $100.00 for each year of ministry. Thank you also for the many fine comments made in writing and made verbally to me and to the congregation at the anniversary dinner. Thank you for dedicating the Eternal Light in the sanctuary in my honor. There were so many people involved in making the joint celebration of my 25th and the church’s 165th Anniversaries, that I can hardly imagine thanking each one personally. I deeply appreciate all the work of words, gifts, clean up, take down, preparation, cooking, and so on. I know the celebration was a total celebration for the church’s 165th , but you sure made me feel very special.
											      Your Pastor, Paul

Church Fellowship Hall

All those who graciously took part in last January’s planning session are being asked to come to the church for a one hour meeting to evaluate the process. How well did it work? What was accomplished? How can we do it better? Please mark your calendar and come and share your insights. This will be an informal meeting to help us as we prepare for GOING APE IN 2008
