Last year, a family came to me with a generous gift. They decided they wanted to make Christmas a little bit better for a family in the church by giving them an anonymous gift of $500.00. They were doing this as a love offering in memory of their mother and father. A week later, a couple told me they had received an extra $5000.00 and would like to tithe it by giving $500.00 to help someone in the church. These two generous offers were used as memorials to loved ones.

Two families were chosen by me to assist. I am the only one who knows who they are. The donating family gave me a picture of the person they wanted to memorialize. They also wrote a short paragraph about the person. I presented the picture and the money to a member of the family receiving the gift. They were given instructions to keep the gift confidential and to put the picture and paragraph in a save place until Christmas. On Christmas day, they were to take some private time alone, look at the picture, read the paragraph, and think about the person in whose memory the gift was given. They were to think about the generosity of those who follow Jesus Christ and who chose to celebrate God’s gift by giving. They were to think about Christmas as a time of giving and receiving. God’s gift at Christmas motivates others to give generously to help others.

If you would like to take part in making someone’s Christmas a bit better, please let me know. The gift can be no less than $500.00 to make a difference. You will never know what family you have helped, but they will know that the gift did come from you. The family is not allowed to contact you or let you know their identity. The receivers of the gift are those who may simply need a little extra to make the season less stressful and should not be confused with those who are destitute. The families receiving the funds are members of the church. Records that are kept are only revealed incase of an IRS audit. If the response to this idea is more generous than the need, the gift will be returned to the donor. Gifts need not be limited to $500.00. The $500.00 is a minimum.

Have a Great Christmas!
