Text Box: DISCRETIONARY FUND

September is the month we take the Discretionary Fund offering. This special offering began as a simple process where people handed the minister cash to give to someone in need. It has since grown to a significant expression of love and support from active members of the church to active members of the church. It is given to the minister with no restrictions other than it be given to people in the church in need and that it does not become abused or seen as a means of support for people. It is for emergency relief. At one time, the minister made the decision at his discretion. The fund has grown to such levels that there are now two leaders in the church who also review the distribution and make decisions about it. The two are anonymous in order to keep the process from becoming about personalities. Some smaller distributions are made completely at the minister’s discretion. Records of Fund distribution are kept for review by the church auditor and the IRS. The church auditor has reviewed the Fund and has signed it indicating that it is in order. In all other cases, the names of the individuals who receive the funds are kept confidential.
We receive the Discretionary Fund offering in September, but people can give to it throughout the year.
